Charity Marketing Case Study: My CWA

The client

My CWA, previously known as Cheshire Without Abuse deliver a ‘whole family, whole journey’ service to local families affected by domestic abuse.

Offering crisis accommodation, advice, information, support, recovery and therapeutic programmes for adults and children and a behaviour change programme for people who are abusive in their relationships.

As a charity they pride themselves on developing a bespoke package of support for each family and our helpline is available 24/7.

My CWA offers targeted and specialist support to local families affected by domestic abuse, mental illness and/or substance misuse. 

Their dedicated key workers will work with the family and alongside partner agencies to address the complex problems associated with this combination of issues. 

Challenges faced – the ‘too busy to do our own marketing’ moment

Charity work is often a firefight at the front line. My CWA are constantly firefighting to provide their services across Cheshire for adults and children alike. 

Their case workers are always working busy caseloads bringing their programme of support to as many families as possible.

When the lockdown came into force mid-March 2020 their job became even harder.  

Mighty Moxie had at around the same time volunteered to offer up some time to charities as a skill donor through Cheshire Connect, whose mission is to connect and enable charities and not for profit organisations across Cheshire, Warrington and Halton.  

My CWA needed to get their messaging out to their audience and needed to mobilise their team virtually. As a face to face charity primarily, the challenges were real. Victims and perpetrators of domestic abuse needed sanctuary and solace and a safe space to be able to seek the help of charities like My CWA. 

The big ‘ah-ha’ moment

The charity needed to set up better ways to communicate with people across Cheshire affected by domestic abuse. They knew that they needed to act and fast.

Deputy CEO Beverley Wrighton explains;

‘We needed help in our outreach communications both internally and externally – Mighty Moxie’s offer to skill donate came at the perfect time for us. We have marketing support, but as a charity we simply don’t have the budget to expand to paying for further help.’  

Mighty Moxie are still currently working with the charity and helping with communications both external and internal during the COVID-19 crisis.
